이번호에 소개되는 프로젝트는 과거 철강산업 부지였던 룩셈부르크의 에슈쉬르알제트 지역을 새로운 공공공간으로 탈바꿈시킨 ‘LUX 프로젝트’이다. 이를 계획한 AllesWirdGut 건축사무소와 발주한 AGORA society는 2012년 6월26일 룩셈부르크 건축상 조경디자인 부문 수상자로 선정되기도 했다.

버려진 채 방치되어 왔던 산업 부지는 전체적으로 폭과 거칠기, 이끼나 자작나무 같은 식물들에 분위기가 좌우되고 있었다. AllesWirdGut 건축사무소는 이곳을 재설계하면서 이전 대상지의 흔적들을 허물지 않고, 과거부터 현재까지 이어져온 장소의 잠재적 가치가 빛날 수 있도록 기존의 유산들을 남기는 설계 전략를 사용했다. 콘크리트, 목재, 그리고 방부 처리되지 않은 철재 등 세월의 흐름을 느낄 수 있는 노화된 재료들이 산업적 건물들과 함께 어우러지고 있다. 비워진 공간, 계단, 그리고 식물들이 공간 안에서 번갈아가며 이어지며, 오래된 재료들에 생기는 녹청(금속 표면에 생기는 것)은 세월의 흔적으로 남아, 과거로의 향수를 불러일으키고 있다.

We are delighted to announce that the project LUX - Place de l'Academie, the architectural design on a former “Stahlhof” (steel industry site) in Esch-sur-Alzette, won the prestigious Luxembourg “Bauhaereprais” (builders award) in the category “Espaces paysages” (space and landscape design). The award was accepted yesterday, 26 June 2012 by the builders of AGORA and AllesWirdGut at a festive presentation in Luxembourg.
About the project:
The atmosphere of the abandoned industrial site was characterized by width and roughness, and by plants such as mosses and birch. The redesign by AllesWirdGut is very gentle with this legacy, leaving the hidden qualities of the former site shine through to the present. Aging-capable materials such as concrete, wood and untreated steel were combined with an industrial building-like architecture. Space alternates with empty seats, steps and landscaping. The materials used, take on patina with age and allow the return of the past.
