몇 십 년 전까지 핀란드 대부분의 시골지역에는 지역 철도와 트램 망이 이어져 운영되고 있었다. 그러나 지금은 이들이 사라지고, 대신 그 자리에 자전거길과 산책길이 놓여지고 있다. 하지만 아직도 직선형 트랙 구조들이 여러 지역에 분산되어 그들의 역사성과 공간적 맥락을 잃은 채 남겨져 있다.
핀란드 Rollegem 지역의 한 작은 마을 청소년센터 옆에는, 최근 주차 차고로 들어가는 새로운 출입로와 평행하게 자전거길이 추가로 조성됐다. 이번 프로젝트의 목적은 이 대상지를 만남과 단합, 대화와 소통의 ‘역’이라는 테마로 다시 초점을 맞추는 것이었다. 새로 만든 목재 플랫폼은 과거 트램 역의 장소성을 추상적으로 재현해 주고 있다. 또한 이를 통해 청소년센터는 그들의 활동 범위를 좀더 대중적으로 확대할 기회를 얻는다. 플랫폼은 기존에 분리돼 있던 좁고 길다란 시골 채소밭과 역 광장, 두 개의 아스팔트 바닥을 연결한다. 기존 가로등과 청소년센터 주변의 울타리를 제거해 이를 통합시킴으로써, 간단하게 기존 요소로부터 화합적인 맥락을 창조할 수 있었다. 플랫폼 완공 후, 그 길에는 현재 ‘트램역 패드’라는 거리표지판이 걸려 있다. 자료제공 _ 100Landschaftsarchitektur(www.100land.de)

Until a few decades ago, even the most rural parts of Flanders were serviced by a regional train and tram network, the buurt spoorwegen. After its demise, the network is now being transformed into bicycle and leisure paths. Still, the fragmenting linear track structures have left many diffuse spatial situations, places that have lost their story, their plot line. In the small hamlet of Rollegem, next to a youth centre, a bicycle path was recently laid out rather superfluously in parallel to a new access road to the adjacent parking garages. The following interventive project aims to refocus the site along the theme of station; of meeting, coming together, communicating and exchanging. A new wooden platform abstractly re-enacts the situation of the former tram stop. The youth centre thus gains an opportunity to expand its activities to the public. The platform bonds the two asphalt surfaces that before were nonsensically separated by a narrow strip of ruderal vegetation into a station square. In incorporating the existing streetlights and opening the hedges around the youth centre the project simply creates a cohesive context from the pre-existing elements. After construction of the platform the path is now fitted with street signs reading Tramstatie Pad.

100Landschaftsarchitektur는 Thilo Folkerts가 2007년 베를린에 설립한 회사로 ‘정원 조성’과 ‘최신 도시생태조경’에 관심을 가지고 있다. 종합적 경관의 컨셉만큼 다양하게 실재 공간의 디테일을 창조하는 것이 업무 범위이다. ‘정원’은 이 스튜디오의 모든 작품의 기초가 되고, 우리 환경을 형성하는 문화적 근원으로서 마치 작품의 제목과 같은 역할을 한다.
Thilo Folkerts는 디자인하고, 연구하고, 시공하는 조경가일 뿐만 아니라, 작가, 에디터, 번역가로서 ‘독특한 정원 언어’에 관심을 가지고 있다.
